What do the symbols on wallpaper wrapping actually mean?


Wallpaper labels contain all necessary regulatory and customer-related information. This information is commercially customary and easy to understand. The symbols of internationally recognized product approvals indicate a corresponding merchandise certificate.


Batch number contains information about:

  • Facility number
  • Current batch number
  • Level of compliance with the approved color of wallpaper samples (character A and B)
  • Shift number

The batch number allows the traceability of product manufacture.


ISO 9001 mark

The whole production process of the EDEM AG is subject to European quality standard ISO 9001.


The following table gives information about the meaning of quality icons and certificates.


Washability:

Spongeable
No permanent washability is promised. During hanging, damp glue maybe wiped without visible damage from the face of the wallcovering with a damp sponge or cloth.

Washable
Domestic dust and/or few water based stains maybe carefully removed with a damp cloth and soapy water from the wallpaper. Grease and solvent based stains will not be removable.

Extra-washable
Domestic dust and/or few water based stains maybe carefully removed with a damp cloth and soapy water from the wallpaper. Grease and solvent based stains will not be removable. Some greasy stains might be removable if cleaning is started immediately after soiling.

Scrubbable
Water-soluble stains can be removed with mild soap or a mild abrasive and sponge.

Extra Scrubbable
Water-soluble stains can be removed with a mild abrasive and a soft or harder brush.


Color fastness to light:

Moderate light fastness


Satisfactory light fastness


Good light fastness


Very good light fastness


Excellent light fastness



Vertical offset of the pattern:

Free match
The pattern matches no matter how adjoining lengths are hung.


Straight Match
The pattern is to be matched at the same height. The length of the repeat is also expressed as a number, e.g. 64cm.


Reverse alternate lengths
The pattern is to be matched when joining lengths are hung reversed.


Offset Match
The pattern matches when adjoining lengths are hung with longitudinal displacement. The amount of displacement is also expressed as a number, e.g. 64 / 32cm where 64cm is the pattern repeat: 32cm is the amount of the displacement.



Application:

Paste the wallpaper
The paste is applied on the wallpaper's backside.


Paste the wall
The paste is applied on to the wall, not on the wallpaper's backside.


Pre-pasted
The wallpaper's backside is pre-coated with paste to be activated with water.



Stripping methods:

Strippable
The wallpaper can be stripped manually from the dry wall respectively dry ceiling without leaving residues and without damaging the surface.


Peelable
The decorative or protective surface of the wallpaper can be removed in a dry state and manually from its backing. The backing remains as lining support on the surface where it was hung.


Wet removable
The wallpaper has to be soaked with water or a proprietary stripping agent or by steaming and is scraped off with the a spatula.



Miscellaneous:

Duplex Embossed
Top-quality embossed wallpaper in two paper layers. Embossment remains intact after hanging.


Impact Resistant
Particularly hard-wearing wallcoverings with resilient coating.


Overlap and double cut
Adjoining lengths are lapped and the two thicknesses are cut through with a straight edge and knife. The dispensable two strips of waste are pulled away leaving a perfect butt-joint.


Low flammability
Low flammability according to DIN 4102
